During my first two weeks in Bangkok I stayed iat the CU International House. Here is an outside view. It has 26 stories and accommodates faculty and students.
Another exterior view of the International House. It was about a 15-minute walk to the campus and my office.

A picture of my room at the International House. A 7-Eleven was less than a block away (very popular and open 24 hours/day). Also, a three-story food and retail mall was about two blocks away - a place I visitied quite frequqntly for meals and Starbucks coffee.

My desk and refrigerator area at the International House. The accommodations were basic but quite nice and very inexpensive.
A view of part of the Bangkok skyline from the food/retail mall.
Right across the street from the mall was a beautiful park where people came to relax and exercise. One night I went to a performace by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. It wasn't planned, I just heard the music and walked over - a pleasant surprise!
After two weeks at the International House, I moved to the Sasa International House which is located about two blocks from the Psychology Departement at Chula. Besides being closer to work, it had a wonderful resataurant on the first floor and offered more amenities. My room was on the 2nd floor.
A peaceful creek in front of the Sasa International House.

My room at Sasa. It was very nice - lots of space and very comfortable. An upgrade, albeit more expensive, from the International House.
The room provided lots of room for my clothes - more than I have at home.

One of the services at Sasa was dry cleaning. My clothes were returned by the next day and placed in my closet. I really began to get used to this! And it was inexpensive too.
Separate areas for the shower and toliet.

Wine is expensive in Thailand and not easy to get. The closest store was about a 20 minute walk and wine could not be bought until 5:00 p.m. But, a professor from England, whose office was near mine, told me about some web sites where you could order wine and have it delieverd to you hotel within a couple of hours! Wow, this was quite a discovery. I was a regular customer.
A meal from the restaurant on the 1st floor of Sasa House. The food was fantastic. As a result, I ate many dinners at my desk in my room or down in the restaurant.
One of the nice views on my short walk to campus.
A small temple located outside the Sasa International House.
I went to Chinese accupuncture twice a week thanks to Guide, Fon, and P. It was a lifesaver. Pictured here are bins of herbs and other assorted items. The accupuncturist was quite experienced and kind. Treatments were 500 Baht, about $14.00. A picture of Guide, Fon, and P (from left to right). All taught at Chula and were former students at the Universiity of West Florida. I was Guide's advisor. This is from a Mexican restaurant on the outskirts of Bangkok and gave me my first chance to use Tabasco sauce while there.
The parking lot next to the Psychology Department. Given limited space, drivers would leave thier cars in "neutral" so a guard could move them back and forth to let the cars they were blocking out of the lot.
The students in my Research Methods course taking a test. There were 51 students enrolled and the class meet three times a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday). Teaching the class was both enjoyable and difficult. I had never taught an undergraduate couse in the area before and the book was new to me. But, the students were very bright and performed exceptioanlly well on the tests.

Due to extreme high levells of particulate matter in the air, a few classes were cancelled at Chula. I was given these maskks to wear. Wearing masks is quite common in Bangkok on a "normal" day.
Street food is everywhere in Bangkok - fresh, excellent, and inexpensive.

This vendor was down the street from the accupuncture clinic. The food was excellent.
One of the many temples throughout Bangkok.
At lunch with Guide's family. It was very nice to see them again. The last time we got together was over 10 years ago. The food was exceptional and enough to feed an army! But, the company was better - the entire family is extrememly gracious and fun. This meal was catered and served in a wine shop given my enjoyment of wine.
Part of the meal included very large and tasty prawn. Two of them could be an entire dinner.
