Riverside Mews specializes in providing accomodations for longer-term residents. It's located about a mile from the UCC campus (quite a nice walk), 1/2 mile to downtown Cork, and overlooks the River Lee. The apartments are furnished nicely and include a microwave, refrigerator, clothes washer/dryer, shower, phone, television (with cable box), and a abundance of cookware and utensils. Mail can be delieved direcly to your room (by the exceedingly helpful staff there) and the apartments are cleaned weekly. My rent was 500 pounds from January through March, and 550 for April and May, excluding utilities which are fairly expensive. (However, options are available for a variety of heating plans which vary in cost and duration--length and time of day the heat is on). I highly recommend Riverside Mews for anyone staying in Cork for over 2 weeks or so.

My rather small regrigerator (and garbage can too; botton left); part of the reason for my almost daily shopping trips for food. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, glassware, utensils. |
Cooking dinner--the highlight of many of my days, usually fish or a chicken breast, sauteed in olive oil with lots of onions (from Poland) and garlic. The window over the sink offered a nice view of the River Lee while washing dishes (by hand, a tranquil experience at times). In the lower right hand corner (beneath the red pots) is a clothes washer/dryer combination. |
